Learn more about Metropolitan
Read our frequently asked questions for answers to common questions about our brands, products, and the services we offer. Can't find the information you need? Contact us for assistance.
When I call to place an order, why does the representative ask me the name of my company, and what city and state we’re in?
Each representative has a specific territory and looks after accounts in that territory. By asking that question, the receptionist can send your call to the correct customer service specialist.
Does Metropolitan offer local delivery?
For delivery options, please contact your CSS rep.
I have a technical question. Who can I ask?
Your sales rep is highly trained in all areas of the hardwood flooring industry. If you have any questions regarding repairs, installation, or product performance, your Sales reps are here to help.
What is the difference between a Sales Rep and Customer Service Specialist?
The Sales Rep is the individual who came to visit and discuss our product lines with you. A CSS helps the Sales Rep by taking orders and assisting with basic technical questions.
When did Metropolitan enter the flooring industry?
Metropolitan opened its first retail showroom in Canada in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1992. One year later it moved the outlet to Richmond and now operates from design studios and warehouse locations throughout North America. Find a location near you.
What brands of flooring does Metropolitan manufacture and distribute?
Metropolitan manufactures and distributes Kentwood engineered hardwood floors and Evoke luxury vinyl, laminate, and Rigid Core
Does Metropolitan sell its flooring brands direct to consumers?
As a manufacturer and distributor, Metropolitan does not sell its flooring directly to consumers. Our floors can be found and purchased in select dealer showrooms in North America. Find a Kentwood engineered hardwood flooring dealer or an Evoke luxury vinyl, composite, or laminate flooring dealer near you.
Our Commitment to Sustainability and Safety
At Metropolitan, we believe beautiful floors should also be responsible floors. That’s why we hold ourselves to the highest standards in environmental stewardship, product safety, and ethical sourcing—from forest to finished floor.
Our Environmental Principles
- Promote responsible forestry and long-term sustainability.
- Deliver high-quality, durable products for lasting value.
- Encourage energy-efficient practices in manufacturing and operations.
- Support organizations driving responsible forestry and land use.
- Make decisions based on ethics, knowledge, and science.
Formaldehyde: Facts and Regulations
Formaldehyde occurs naturally in our environment and bodies. It’s used in many everyday products and in flooring adhesives. While excessive exposure to formaldehyde gas can pose risks, emissions are strictly regulated.
Metropolitan complies with all major standards:
- CARB (California Air Resources Board)
- TSCA Title VI (U.S. Federal Regulation)
- CANFER (Canadian Regulation)
Our floors labeled CARB/TSCA/CANFER Compliant meet these stringent requirements.
Indoor Air Quality: Going Beyond Basics
We don’t stop at minimum standards. Most Metropolitan products meet:
- CA Section 01350 – Comprehensive VOC emissions standard recognized by LEED, WELL, and CHPS.
- GREENGUARD Gold Certification – Exceeds CA 01350, with ultra-low VOC thresholds for sensitive environments like schools and healthcare.
No Antimicrobial Additives
We do not add antibacterial or antimicrobial chemicals to our finishes. Why? Because:
- Science is inconclusive on long-term health and effectiveness.
- Many additives are unregulated nano-particles.
- Overuse may create resistant “super bugs”.
Regular cleaning works best—without the risks.
Vinyl Floors: Phthalate-Free and Heavy Metal-Free
All Evoke luxury vinyl and rigid core products use Phthalate-Free Inputs (PFI) and contain no heavy metals. Formaldehyde is not used in vinyl production.
Transparency and Compliance
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Available for professional-use products like wood flooring (due to wood dust hazards).
- Vinyl flooring: Exempt from SDS requirements—no hazardous exposures under normal use.
- Full Transparency Report: Published in accordance with the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (Canada, 2024).
Good Foundations: More Than a Slogan
Good Foundations means:
- Quality you can trust: Floors tested and verified at every step.
- Industry leadership: Over 30% of staff dedicated to compliance and sustainability.
- Health-first approach: Certified to the strictest indoor air quality standards.
- Ethical sourcing: Upholding human rights and fair labor across our supply chain.
We don’t just meet standards—we help define them.
